About the Balance + Restore Series

Our Balance + Restore Series is a combination of balancing poses using the wall for support followed by restorative stretches on the floor with apparatus including straps, yoga blocks and balls.

Physical balance is the foundation of safe movement, physical confidence, and long-term mobility.  Stretching, strengthening and mobilizing your muscles, bones and joints is the stabilization component to a strong and healthful body, mind and spirit.

Our standing balances will create a stronger, more responsive body, reducing risks of falls, sprains and fractures, helping you to develop correct postures and strong core to promote a healthy back and increase your confidence in physical activity, so you can lead an active life.

Stretching will limber your body to move with more fluidity and ease with less effort.  It will support you to increase your ability to move your joints through their full range, making daily movements like bending, walking and hiking, easier and safer. We’ll work to  reduce stiffness in your back, hips and shoulders caused by repetitive work or sports, excessive sitting and slumped over postures.

And finally, we’ll activate the parasympathetic nervous system (your “rest and digest” mode), to help manage stress and promote calmness.

Barbara researches and shares wellness topics for this class, including:

  • Increasing muscle mass and strength for safety and ease
  • Nourishing the vagus nerve to calm your body
  • Eating the essentials for longevity and optimal gut function
  • Teaching your fear center in your brain (the amygdala) to decipher real and imagined fear
  • Considering vitamins and nutrients your body may be lacking for your optimal health
